What do you need?
I’ve just been listening to Colin & Edith on Radio 1 (not my choice, but thats only because I haven’t updated/stolen Liz’s iPod yet) and they actually just did somehting amusing.
If you go to Google and type in ‘
I just did this quickly and I found out that there is a somewhat famous gardener called Chris Needs – but if you scroll further down, you will find out that:
Chris needs your sex talk
Now since I’m at work, I can’t really press this any further – but try it yourself.
In addition to what I need, I did a Google search for ‘Chris wants’ as opposed to ‘Chris needs’ and the top hit on the popular search engine was:
Chris wants boobs
It’s not actually as naughty as it sounds, but some Australian blog with a cheeky title. Again, I would have a look at it, but I have a feeling that people in the office would object to me browsing sites that could be ‘dubious’ in nature.
Go aheadand try it:
Phoney Trackback
Well I’m embarassed to say but I got very excited when I logged in to the admin console of bordgen today and noticed that next to ‘Trackback’ on the front page, was a (1) where there is usually a (0).
I was most disappointed when I read it and found it was a fake trackback:
Michelle and I have taken up watching foreign films, having grown tired of the worn Films regarding current activities are located in theList of …
It was posted to Five Films for Friday Fun.
Nevermind, eh?
Xbox 360 Woes
Over the past couple of days while using my Xbox 360, I have noticed it running quite sluggishly compared to what it usually runs like. I mostly use it for the Media Extender functionality – allowing me to view pictures, music and movies from my Media Centre PC upstairs in the lounge.
Yesterday whilst watching some movies on the TV through the Xbox it crashed. So I turned it off and then back on again, where I was greeted by a series of beeps (I can’t remember how many exactly) and then a system hang. Again I turned the console off and left it. I went back to it about an hour later and everything was fine.
A similar thing happened today. I was downloading the demo of Ninety Nine Nights (N3) from XBLM when it crashed. So I turned it off and back on again only to see 3 flashing bars on teh ‘Circle of Light’. Natrually I rushed upstairs to see what these mean. Apparently you can find an error code from them using the buttons on the front of the console. So I wrote down the steps to take and went back downstairs and tried turning it on again but this time it worked.
About an hour or so later, the Xbox is still running fine and my demo of N3 has finished so I go to play it. I get in to the game, have about a 5 min play and it crashes.
My guess is that, since it was one of the first in the UK (got it on release date), then it might be overheating due to a dadgy batch that came off the assemby line. From what I remember of the story, MS hadn’t removed the plastic protector from ebtween the heatsink and the processor. Ok, so I could be taking things to the extreme and, as Liz just pointed out, it is like an oven downstairs which probably hasn’t helped matters.
Roll on Winter so I can play my Xbox again!
The Curse of Two Comments
Ever since I switched to a database driven site with comments for bordagen, I have been haunted by a curse. there has only ever been 2 comments on my ‘blog’ at any one point (excluding past work mates screwing with the system).
I mean since I’ve switched to MT, sure I’ve had a few more – but they’ve been spam/junk and therefor been caught by the system.
Am I just not writing interesting or informative articles? Am I not writing frequently enough? I know I don’t have a real place in the ‘blogosphere’ yet, but I’m hoping to work on it.
If anyone out there has any tips for a relatively new blogger then please, feel free to leave a comment telling me of ways that I can improve or anything like that. All feedback welcome (unless it’s spam in which case it won’t even get read – only deleted).
‘Quick’ Meme
Whilst idly browsing Neil’s World I came across a meme that I could complete. Seemed to have some good questions on it, lets just hope that I have some good answers to go with them…

Five Films for Friday Fun
Since it’s Friday and therefor nearly the weekend, I have compiled a list of fun movies that might make the long Friday afternoon pass a little quicker. Please note that some of these videos may need plugins to be installed in your browser. I have tried to keep my slection to Google Video and YouTube for viewing ease.
1. Mac Warfare
An old video about how easy Mac’s are to use. I know everyone has probably seen it before, but since i now work on a Mac during my 9-5 then it just seems fitting to share it with the world one more time.
2. Trunk Monkey
Trunk Monkey is… well I don’t really want to ruin the surprise.
3. Christmas Lights
This is how every man shouls want his seasonal Christmas lights done – although some might think it’s overkill. Maybe so, but its still great to watch.
4. Guitar Hero From Hell
This is a superb video of someone playing Pantera – Cowboys From Hell on the PS2 game, Guitar Hero. I thought it was worth a mention because its a great song and some fast finger work.
5. BumpTop Project
A little video of a new method of organising your desktop on your computer that utilises real-life physics. Very impressive from what the video shows.
That is my Friday Films. Who knows, maybe this will turn in to a weekly event.
I’ve been a bit late in my blogging of late – combining multiple entries in to one large post. This isn’t because I’m lazy or anything (although it probably doesn’t help the matter), but just that it has been far too hot in the computer room at home, and work might look down on me blogging throughout the day.
Liz and I managed to get an instance run of Scholomance done last night on WoW which took the best part of 4 hours and I still didn’t get the Lightforge BRacers that I wanted/needed in order to receive the Soulforge Bracers I really want (*sniff sniff* – uh-oh, the geek alarm is burning up).
I have been trying to find a website to replace blogideas.com which seems to have vanished off the face of the web. Blogideas was a site that generated random qestions from a vast library for people like myself who sometimes find it hard to think of things to write about because life just isn’t that exciting… I managed to find this site The Daily Meme. Unlike blogideas.com, TDM link you to other places on the web that have the topics that you cna write about on your own blog.
One I found today: What is the furthest North and the furthest South you’ve ever been?
The furthest North I have been is somewhere in Scotland, but because I was little when we went, I can’t remember where abouts it actually was. I seem to remember staying on a farm and being woken up by a cow pushing it’s nose against the window and mooing very loudly at me – but that could also have been Wales (I might ask my parents and see if they remember which was which). I have been to Canada on a stop on the way to Florida, but after consulting a map of the world, Scotland is further north. As for the furthest South, I would have to say Florida – seeing as it is further down than Land’s End in Cornwall.
In a great mark of good intentions, I just managed to lock myself and Liz in the computer room – the hottest room in the house incidentally.
What happened was we were sat playing WoW and a huge fly managed to get in to the room through the open window (like I said, it’s a hot room), so rather than let the fly investigate the whole house, I shut the door. Liz then decided tht she needed the bathroom so she walked to the door and although the handle worked, the catch didn’t.
So I rang my dad to see if there was an easy way to get out of this kind of situation, when the door upstairs is caught – and all keys are downstairs/in a different room – and the landlord contact numbers are down by the front door – and all the back gates are locked. Turns out the only way would be to call the landlord. So Liz dug out the contract and found a number for the landlord. The problem with this plan, is that neither of us speak fax machine.
I then was contemplating smashing though the door with something until I realised that there was a gap behind the catch and between the door. I the found a lanyard from a bluetooth dongle and threaded it behind the catch and pulled, forcing the catch to slide open. I then, pulling the lanyard with one hand and the door with the other, managed to get the door open.
I then rang my dad back, to which the parents and my grandpa found most amusing (and contemplating what I actually learnt while in Bradford).
Anyway, the important thing is that the door now is gaffer taped open and a copy of the landlords numbers is now in here, just in case. The lesson for today – there may sometimes be a reason a door is left open.
Summer Films
Over the last week, I dragged Liz kicking and screaming to see two of this years big summer blockbusters, “Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest” and “Superman Returns”. Regardless what she said I thought both films were fantastic – although Superman was better than Pirates, but that is to do with how Pirates ended and the fact that it was up against the ultimate superhero in the battle for my film watching affections.
Pirates 2 was a very good film, delivering more back story to existing characters, as well as reintroducing some old characters in to the fray. the CGI in the film was really good, although my grumble that all CGI is far too smooth still holds true. Story-wise, this movie played out very well with a fluid storyline and a few nods to the first film which is nce to see.
Ok, now on to Superman Returns. I had been waiting since I saw the first one on TV to see a Superman film at the cinema on the big screen and I can say that I was not disappointed. Brendon Routh managed to capture the spirit of the character superbly (no pun intended) whilst adding his own flair to the role. He even had the hair curl from the comics – nice attention to detail in hair/make-up. Other characters in the film were played excellently, espeicially Lex Luthor (played by Kevin Spacey). In the previous 4 films, Luthor was a ‘criminal genius’. In Superman Returns, he is plain evil – although he does manage to keep some of the humour from the previous owner of the role (Robert Vaughn). The CG was definatly something special thoughout. One thing that I was very pleased about was that the opening credits were in the same style as the other films which was a very nice touch. I was actually wondering wether I would have been missing out on something seeing this movie having not seen the 4th one (Quest for Peace) but it turns out that it just explains that Superman has been away and now he’s back… end of story.
In short, two very good films that I would recommend to anyone to see.
Now I just need to see “A Scanner Darkly” and my summer cinema film intake will be complete.
Well, I’ve finally made level 60 in Warcraft.
I’ve been playing the game since around January this year to get to level 60, but only 20 days 16 hours 39 minutes 52 seconds (at the time) in gameplay time to achieve it.
I guess all that is left to do is several instance/raid runs and work on reputation…
I have a feeling that, although I am still going to be playing regularly, it might not be for as much for the time being anyway. Might concentrate on my poor neglected Xbox 360. After all, Prey is coming out soon (if it hasn’t already) and after playing the demo I was suitably impressed.
