Good morning, all

Posted by Chris

Wow it’s been a while since I last updated my blog… so much for my promise of updating on a more regular basis. Where to start? Well firstly I would like to congratulate Liz on successfully completing her Master degree in Creative Digital Media. Well done!

A few more things that I have been getting up to are:

  • The last couple of weeks have seen many new game announcements courtesy of Tokyo Game Show and now X06, unveiling such gems as a Halo RTS with the backing of Peter Jackson, a ton of new content for Xbox Live Marketplace and a few new demos such as Lego Star Wars 2 as well as the original Doom for Xbox Live.
  • My WoW time has taken a hammering due to two of my mates (Chris and Vicky) moving in a few streets away so we’ve pretty much been around there most of the time. I ‘rolled’ a new character – an Undead Warlock – who is now sitting at level 30. I wouldn’t mind taking him to 60, but I’m not sure if that is going to happen…
  • Liz bought herself a Mac Mini the other day to gain some Mac experience for jobs she is applying to so she can throw that on to her CV.
  • My computer is slowly dying. The hard drives are becoming old and run down so I might have to pick a new one up and cycle them (C –> D, new disk to C). Speaking of my computer, I (again) put (what was) the latest version of Vista on to it and everything was peachy, I even got my Xbox 360 working with it nicely, but now everything on it either doesn’t work (Firefox crashes on load and AVG won’t initialise at startup, I can’t burn and discs without using the burner built in to Vista, it won’t connect to Xbox etc.) so I will be putting good ol’ MCE back on today – what a fun way to spend my weekend.

Ok, I think that is enough ranting for now.

Disappointment Rising

Posted by Chris

Once again, sorry for the lack of updates, loyal readers (*chuckle*), but I have been quite busy of late catching up on films and games I’ve bought recently and with the addition of my 9-5 it leaves me little time for blogging. I’m going to try to blog more regularly in the future, I promise…

Anyway, I recently had to cancel my pre-order for the latest offering from Capcom, Dead Rising. For those of you who don’t know, in the game you play a photo journalist trapped in a mall in a back-water state who has to find out why the dead are rising and ultimately stay alive. Very ‘Dawn of the Dead’ I know – but all warning screen state that it is not related to the classic film, nor endorsed by George Romero at all.

I got the demo of it down from XBLM and noticed that the text on my television was very small. This, as it turns out, has been a major complaint from many players and Capcom is aware. It turns out that the game has been optimised for HDTV and so the text doesn’t display properly on a standard screen.

Capcom have come out today and told 1up.com that there will be no patch for the game to make the text legible for standard definition users.

This has disappointed me greatly as I was looking forward to playing the full version of the game, and will be influencing the urgency to which I buy this game.

Not everyone can afford HDTV, Capcom.

Nothing in Particular

Posted by Chris

It hasn’t been very busy, I just don’t know where the time has gone to.

How strange is it that I get the most page views on bordagen when I don’t post any entries for a while? Maybe I have a cult following in the underground? Maybe it’s just dumb luck – I don’t know.

What I do know is that it was mine and Liz’s 3 year anniversary on Monday. I got her the cliched box of chocolates and flowers and took her out for a meal. Thank you for a wonderful 3 years, and I hope we can share many more.

I have started to seriously think about buying a cheap car. I have decied on a Nissan Micra. I have been looking around Auto Trader and they seem to have a steady stream of Micra’s appearing in there. Now it’s just a matter of getting up and doing it.
